PictoChat @ Events?
« on: December 19, 2009, 10:32:04 PM »

I was playing my DS and recalled something I wanted to do at Fandemonium 2010.

I wanted to during parts of the convention use Pictochat to speak to people.
Like in the registration line, or while people are board. To have a group Pictochat!

Maybe an area or something like that!

What do you guys think?

I've seen it used at AX, when the reg lines ate layered over 5 fold (using my laptop i detected at least a 6:1 ratio of DS to PSP users). it took me 3 hours waiting to get badge, so portability was key.
it would depend on how many actually bring theirs at that time.

I remember at AO one year - I was sitting with my friend who was on his. And there were like 10 or so people in the pictochat and eventually they all found each other and ended up sitting in a circle.

It was fun.

Beyond that I have no input >.>

At Sakuracon we were using them all the time during main events and in the reg lines, but it doesn't really work as well at small cons like fan or AO since there is usually little barrier for people to find each other and socialize otherwise.

Hrm. Really? I wonder if we could fix that? Some people do have a harder time than others socializing!

Really? That's awesome. Maybe there could be an area with the chairs, (the lobby area?) for that.
Maybe I'll put up posters at Registration telling people to join in!

Everyone has a DS man! Haha.
I wouldn't be surprized.

(well. I guess the people with PSP's don't have DS's...) :P

In a room with 5000 people, it's a lot more convenient to use a DS to communicate with people, as where in a room with 100 or so people, it's almost inconvenient to use the DS. Also, with so many people concentrated in the same place at a larger con, the chance that many people not only have a DS but are using it is increased significantly as where at a smaller con you're simply not going to find as many people using them. Perhaps the ratios are about the same, but the sheer numbers are still fairly minuscule.

Haha. Good point Beef.
I ment though as a way of just having while your standing in line or board somewhere.
I mean sure, there is ALWAYS something going on at Fandemonium, but that doesn't mean that everyone wants to enjoy everything that's happening.

So for those people who want to play, I think just putting up a Poster in the waiting area at Registration telling them that others are connected and to joinin is a okay idea.

It's not suppost to be an event, more just a "hey! were all here, come join us!" sort of thing.
